The Beauty of YOUR Mothering Style

I have done a lot of reading the past year about temperaments and personality types. It really has helped me to understand my children (and my husband and my friends and my extended family and.... ) because I see that others can perceive and react to the world in a much different manner than I. And all these types are valid.
It also helped me see that my job is not to change my children, but understand them and help them be the best they are. But that was hard to do when I expected them to react and learn just as I do.
This online quiz only has four questions, but then sorts your personality into the Myers Briggs dominate personality types. What I really loved about this is that every type is described in such positive terms. As I read them all (which you can do on the site), I saw how every individual God created has traits that are gifts.
And, I have seen that in my homeschooling friends: IRL and online. I have friends who are introverted and very perceptive. I have others who are constantly socializing and drawing their dc out into the world. Some are orderly and precise modeling wonderful habits, others are more loosey, goosey and their homes reflect their warmth.
All moms are a gift to their children. There is not just one way to mother or to homeschool.
( Note: I could either put myself as Introvert or Extrovert, (as I am a mix) but went with Extrovert because in homeschooling that is really my dominant trait. I had to laugh when I read that I will strike up conversations with strangers.. Because I do so often! And much to my boys chagrin! Learning about personality types has taught me that others may not enjoy that so much... but it also has helped me see all the things we do have in common.)
When I read some of the comments of other moms... how they are quiet, perceptive, etc, I thought, Oh, I wish I had scored that! But I realized that we all are a mix of many types and again how valid all personalties are, because God gave them to us. And we can share them with our family.
Anyway, here is how I turned out:
Your type is: esfp The "Totally There" Mother
"I I like to give my children an immediate response. It's not like there is one time for hugs and another to make sandwiches."
Energetic and people-oriented, the ESFP mother lives in the moment, A "Totally There Mother" for her children is totally focused on them when she is with them. She enjoys being with her children and can respond to their needs " on the spot," ensuring that they feel loved and cared for.
Fun-loving, friendly, and outgoing, the ESFP mother actively engages her children in a wide variety of experiences. They can count on her to strike up a conversation with a fellow shopper at the market or with the bus driver, introducing them to the joys of people everywhere.
Devoted and practical, the ESFP mother also enjoys doing for her children. She is attentive to their feelings and is deeply touched by every joy or hurt they experience.
See if you agree with how your mothering personality is sorted, too...
