Connecting with Da Vinci Code

Lots of talk about Da Vinci these days.

The bits and pieces that have been flying through our home... making connections:

Dinner table conversation with Dad explaining the history of the Catholic Church and the absurdity of this book and movie.

Me sharing with family about how email families I know are going to other movies (especially Over the Hedge) in attempt to 'other'cot the movie. Our friends here in town did the same. Dad took all 5 kids to see the OTM movie full price.. something they rarely do.

At Mass yesterday our visiting priest talked about the movie and how it is being pushed on our senses. And to mar the name of a great artist at the same time. He told us the author once said in an interview that people won't be reading this book a thousand years from now. In his dry British accent and smile, Father said, "I don't doubt that!"

Discussion with Dad (again) about early church fathers and how to understand history brings you back to the Church. And how the early fathers spent much time dealing with heresy.

Boys asking HOW they could make a video game from this? Is it fiction? What would the action be? Running through books looking for code?

Discussion about Sony. Boys are very interested in movie studio and their positioins from their Lucus-watching over the years. Corporate responsibility (or lack of it) is always a hot topic here. Why did they make this?

Tom Hanks comment on Letterman that he did this because they offered him a lot of money. Sigh.

"Tom Hanks?" one son mused.. trying to remember where he knew that name. Other son remembered--the Apollo 13 movie. Yes- that is where he knew Hanks from.

"No.. " First son said.." He was also Woody in Toy Story!"

Then we all got a quiet smile. That voice. Woody. Woody is staring in DaVinci code. Oh my. What would Buzz say?
