Watching a Business be an 'on-going concern'....

I have enjoyed my Jazzercise class for the past 18 months.
It is a small franchise owned by two really neat women who partnered up and run the business and teach classes.
I have had to keep my mouth shut sometimes, because being a thinker/doer and having a business background, I have all sorts of 'ideas' for them as they try and keep their new business afloat and help it grow.
I am currently a Class Manager. There are about 7 of us. What we do is show up early at class time, boot up the computer, check people in, sell tickets to new students, back up data, help set up and tear down the stage, assist the instructor with announcements, etc.
I have enjoyed it as I know most everyone who works out by name. And I get my work outs for free. :)
Most instructors, especially the two owners very dancey and artsy. C used to do USO shows and was the choreographer/leader of the Houston Oilers cheerleaders. W had taught dance and was a cheerleader in high school.
I love being an adult because when I was in high school, no cheerleaders would ever be seen with me! Age is the great equalizer.. lol
So anyway, they have talents galore, but typically artsy/ dancey people are not also number-organization people. but I find myself wanting to jump in and give suggestions on running a business. I offered to research and write up a business plan for them. They were nice about it, but didn't follow up. Oh I have so many ideas.....! So, I think I will let them do it there way. C has run centers before and has done Jazzercise for 25 years, so maybe I should keep my mouth shut.
Of course I am sharing this with the boys. In case they become entepeneurs one day. We have had friends that have tried their hand at running their own business. Some succeeded, some did not. We chat about it all.. what I way to think about future career/work, to have real life examples. (though I don't see my young men anywhere near a Jazzercise center.. lol)
They are doing well and it is a fun and friendly place to work out. I have made some nice friendships there.
Now, though W has decided to sell her half of the business back to C. I can see why. W has a small daughter at home and the business is eating up all her time. Those of you who have done this *know* that about having your own business.
So, C is asking the Class Managers to help out more.
I am excited to do so. I handle the two classes on Saturday morning: at 7:45 and 8:45. So, instead of doing the toning class early, I will do paperwork, sweep, and maybe clean the bathrooms.
I find this exciting. I love to see people start and make it in their endeavors, especially small business. I wish them all the luck in the world. And am thankful I found such a positive place for my exercise.

(note: if you join you may find yourself dancing to some rap.... well, it keeps us young as C says...)

Cindy, so glad to see you mainline again! :-)
Have you thought about being a Jazzercise instructor yourself? Sounds like you would be a perfect match.
And I really related to the post about doing what you love. I love Taebo and, more recently, Turbo Jam. Turbo Jam/Turbo Kick is like a dancy kickbox class or workout DVD. Fun! And, sorry to say, but I LOVE getting my b**t kicked by Taebo - I love that killing msyelf feel! lol
Hi Leonie!
Your Turbo Jam sounds like a real kick! (pun intended) I have a kick box tape and really love it, too. It is *hard*- but that feeling is great... as you say--- when you know you have worked hard.
I am not sure I am dancy enough to actually teach the class - but will keep it in mind. One never knows... :-)
Thanks for the post!
