A Must Read-- Says ME!

I found a manifesto that I somehow want to get all my questioning (or silent) relatives and acquaintances to read.... or maybe I will just have to read this over a few times and figure out how to be eloquent myself at the next cocktail party or family function.

That manifesto is:

Crunchy Cons: The chapter on Education. (by Rod Dreher)

I just finished the chapter yesterday. He does a pheonmenal job describing the motivations for homeschooling. He is Catholic (not overtly, but is is woven throughout his thinking and values) and he is not Gestapo. Parents have the choice to decide how to rear their children, but let it be a *thinking* choice.

Oh, please anyone who is related to me or a friend of mine who does not understand the beauty of homeschooling and what in the world I am thinking.. please read this!

I plan to put up excerpts later. The really good stuff.

Maybe it will not grab you like it did me, but knowing the circles that frequent mine and others' blogs, I think it will. This has entered my top ten list of books that influenced or in this case, explain our life and choices. I mean, this gets on the list with the likes of John Taylor Gatto, John Holt , Charlotte Mason and Susan Schaeffer MacCaulley. Well and there is Pope John Paul II, but I think I will make an A+ list just for him. Well and I will let a few saints on that A+ list, too.
Ok, now I know I have to make an entry here on my A and A+ lists. Now I will have something to ponder at my workout to which now I am late because I am typing this sentence.

(btw, haven't read the rest of the book yet, but the Religion chapter is looking good so far...)

Looking forward to reading this, Karen. My husband spotted it at the bookstore the other day and told me it looked like something I would like to read. Now I will check it out for sure.
