Enjoying and/while Improving
From Karen E's Blog...
"I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day."
~~ E. B. White
This is great food for thought. Again searching the role of myself in my dc's life and how that relates to unschooling, Classical Ed, Charlotte Mason, Just Plain Living and all the rest.... this quote comes in good timing.
With our children, if we are engaging with them and their desires to explore the world, this is in a sense improving them and thus improving the world.
I think the two scenarios that Mr. White puts forth overlap often, too.
Maybe that elusive happiness on earth is a function of how often our activities include both enjoyment and improvement?
One case in point is email. Yeah, it can be easy to bash.. it can be a time waster. All things in moderation. But this is one activity I enjoy and also has improved myself and my family greatly. And I hope I have contributed to improving others' lives as well.

Your emails are always edifying, Cundy!
here, here!
Richelle.. I say DITTO back to you!
And Michelle, and Leonie, too.... and so many others.
The Internet truly is a two edged sword... some traps, but lots of gifts.
And I am very thankful for my e-friends. :)
