More Interest-led Writing- and boy are they mad!

My boys are really mad. Really, really mad.

Let me tell you, they are mad.

Their favorite video game character, Sonic, was featured in a newly-released game. They have been anticipating this game for a long time and were thrilled to see the trailer. But, ACK! at the end of the trailer, the company took a very wrong turn. Violence, guns, a really stupid looking ATV. Why, oh why, doesn't the VG company understand the idiocy of it's decision? What is the marketing staff thinking? To what audience is this supposed to be directed?

These questions and more were bouncing off the walls in our house.

I shook my head. Alas. I had no answers.

But, something was being done.

Yesterday I was pretty much dragged into the office to review and edit two very passionate letters that has been crafted to Sega. They were full of strong words, but words asking that a position be considered.

My boys wanted the company to read their letters, take them seriously and thus was crafted two persuasive letters that go far beyond what any curriculum might have coaxed from them.
How should the letters be written to get the point across but be taken seriously? Lots of good questions.

I'll share the first paragraph of my 12yos's impassioned plea. If you were the VG exec, would you listen?

Dear Sega,

I was recently engrossed in the recent E3 event. From Microsoft to Sega, I read many of the articles, and watched tons of movies, but none of them put such a bad taste in my mouth as the new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog, the new game for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Now I must explain why. It by no means looks like a boring game, it looks exciting, enthralling, and thrilling. Out of all the games at E3, I was looking forward to it the most. That is, until I saw the last 5 seconds of the trailer...

HI Gianna-

I would be interested in your boys' take on the trailer. My guys have their own take and are more sensitive to certain things that others may be. Have your boys checked out my guys' gameing blog? They are hoping to get comments, ideas, suggestions. Don't have to agree with what my boys think!

Their blog is www.thegameguide.blogspot.com

Would love your comments. And thanks for the kind words on B's writing. To me it goes to show if you have a passion about something, the words will come. :)
