Corporate Calls and Peanut Butter Cookies

Well, this has been a mixed bag of a day.
I got up this morning and instead of seeing my dh off to work, I saw him to the home office as he is working at home. This is something he wants to do couple of times a week. Nice to have him here, but yes, some adjustments are in order. For example, the office where our two computers reside is now 'his' during the day, so I will have to be much more organized about my usage. I depend a lot on Google..... my instant researcher.
Also the boys are in and out of the office all the time, so we will have to get some protocal in place. Also, directly over the office is the Light Saber Battle Room (otherwise known as the Guest Room) and the office ceiling shakes and the light fisture rattles when a battle is in progress. More protocal needed.
I went on an exercise walk, came back and helped dh set up his laptop. Email problems so our neighbhorhood computer guru came by and set things straight.
Then, I cleaned the whole downstairs. Mr. President helped me. I had his news conference on all three TVs downstairs and listened in. I got a tremoundous amount done. Yesterday I deep cleaned the kitchen and also spackled and touched up painted the kitchen. It looks marvelous! I did laundry and cleaned up bedding from a 2:30 am accident that Ralphie had in Bryan's bed. After he awoke me to help him in the middle of the night, he ended up sleeping in the Light Saber Battle Room.
On to lunch. Just as I sat down to eat, dh informed me that I was scheduled for a conference call with his people at work. He works with a small company as a consultant and they have just secured a new customer who needs some phone work done with prospective customer. What better labor force that the wives of the partners and managers? We are cheap and got good heads on our shoulders. Plus when they are finished with us, they can toss us aside.
So, still smelly from my walk and house cleaning and hungry as all get out, I listened in on an 1 1/2 hour training call where we were given our mission should we decide to accept it. Though we were already signed up.
(I hesitated to tell dh I could make triple the money dogsitting... as duty calls.)
But, it was interesting. I have been out of the coproate world for, oh my goodness, 14 years! That is 150% longer than I was in it! But, I really do feel I have put my MBA to good use here at home. Really, I do. Life is all about learning and that was a fun part of my life.
Anyway, it was interesting to be on that conference call with the 4 others. It was low key, of course, but still, I was back in the world of business. We were discussing corporate structures, software applications, titles and responsibility, how to get to the decision makers of the company. And I could hear the interplay of the other 'employees'- a bit of tension here and there, some CYA, some rah-rah and kudos. Ah, the work world.
After the call, I returned to my previous reality and called the boys in to do some reading. We are continuing through my edition of Imitation of Christ. We also read aloud the daily St. Augustine reflections. We touched base on their reading.
They got online with two buddies on chat and I could hear the keys flying in the office and smoke coming from the keyboards.
Ah, back to my reality. I took a shower (finally) at 3:30, and thinking about the conference call, the world out there.... felt suddenly so content and had the urge to bake peanut butter cookies. So I did.
So there, Hillary.
