Modeling

Thinking about how people in our lives model for our dc.

I have a friend who did the nano writing experience with me last year. She is now in rewrite and offered to allow me to read her book, and she wanted my thoughts and notes.

I am not an editor.. am not even a writer other than my own personal smatterings.

But, boys saw me on a recent plane trip armed with her manuscript (I love that word.. manuscript!) and my highlighter and pen.. just marking my impressions. What works for me, what I want to hear more of, what was unclear.

I think that is a neat image. To see Mom marking up a manuscript. That opens doors. Real people write books. Even real-er people (good old Mom) have notes and opinions to share.

If Mom has notes and Mom's friends writes books, then maybe I could write a book?

Many other models come to mind.. a friend who got her doctorate and is teaching at a university, Dad doing prison ministry, dad of 5 who stuck to his dream of being an artist and now has a large commission.

Hum..I had some models growing up, too. But it seemed most of my life was in conformity. Maybe that is why this seems worth blogging. Thinking through. It was not a natural part of learning, and now these things stick out as extraordinary. But they really shouldn't be. They are part of this big glorious life God gave us.

Or on the positive side, maybe it is just wonderful that we take the time to see and appreciate them?
