Ringing in the New Year with Joy

Today at Mass, our priest encouraged us greatly as he spoke of the new year.
He talked about how in our culture today, bad news is reported, analyzed and fretted over to such a degree that we forget the joy and the blessings God has given us. We begin to we worry and often despair. We become defensive and close our hearts to our fellow men. We cut people off in traffic. And we lose heart.
He reminded us that this new cycle of the calendar year can be one of joy. We need only look at the promises Christ has given us and the blessings we hold in our hands right now. Know and welcome God's pure love into our lives.
Jeff Cavins and Mark Shea had a related message on their daily reflections, which I will post below.
Happy New Year to you all and I wish you all of God's blessings.
A Commandment for the New Year!
--------------------------------
John 13:34
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
--------------------
Tonight, a year ends and a new one begins. Whatever technological breakthroughs await us, whatever scientific discoveries will be made, whatever economic gains will be accomplished, whatever the achievements of the next year may be, there will never be anything as new as this commandment.
