Grade Machines
This from a friend who teaches at a well-respected private university:
"
You know what kind of students I see at my university? Grade machines. They are amazing at getting 4.0s and straight As, but when I ask them what they read their last semester of high school, they can't remember. They crammed it into their RAM (short term) memory and flushed it after the test. Yikes. Products of a coercive and hyper-competitive educational system. "
How does this challenge us as home educators? What can we do differently?
